Letters to Someone

My aunt bought me ivory-colored paper
in a pretty pink and yellow box.
I drew a different design in the upper corner
of each sheet and wrote letters
as if I were someone else. I found
addresses in the white pages.
Dear Ms. Johnson, I wrote in my best
penmanship, Thank you for the flowers,
that was thoughtful. How are your
cats, Dennis the Menace and Captain Nemo?

I still wonder what Ms. Johnson
and Ms. Adams and Mr. Kazlowski
thought when they read my random letters.
I made up a pen name, but I used
my real address. Even one
of them could have responded.
